As well as managing the detailing and general maintenance requirements for our many boat owners, we also offer a specialist service for Skippers who in many instances manage the overall operations for clients who own larger boats. What’s your background?
I started my career as an Engineer and Mate aboard mega sailing yachts in Europe and then got my first Captain’s role aboard a 43m sailing yacht in the Caribbean. I now have a young family and enjoy living and working in Australia.
How often do you take the boat out?
Our owners are based in Melbourne and they treat their boat as their floating holiday home. We’re normally out for all of the school holidays, many weekends up to about 20 weeks of the year. So yes the boat is used quite regularly. We’ll be taking the boat to the Whitsundays soon, where the owners, their family and friends will fly in and fly out and use the boat as their base.
Why did you choose DBM to assist with your detailing and maintenance requirements?
When the boat was purchased the owners requested a deep clean and Leigh Smith Yacht brokers recommended DBM. The Owners and I were really happy with the job they did so we have continued to use them for our ongoing detailing requirements. Their team members are also well presented, courteous and friendly, very professional and have great phone manner. Their rates are fair so we’ve had no reason to look to another service provider.
What has the service experience been like?
Their service has been great to date. They do what they say they’re going to do, on time and to a superyacht standard. There has been a few times when I haven’t been 100% happy with a job that was completed and I’d just have to ring Mel and it would be fixed straight away. You can’t ask for much better service than that.
How important is it to use someone you trust?
Its critically important for me because if the owner isn’t happy the buck stops with me. I can always be assured that DBM will do a great job and I don’t have to worry.
